Bordeaux 2005 tasting notes – St-Estèphe, Haut-Médoc and Médoc
Battle of the giants between Cos and the under-sale Montrose here – and giant is the word for the proportions of both these wines. Calon Ségur is in the same mould if a little less self-conscious. There’s no tricksy sweetness in any of these wines. There should be many great buys among the best Haut-Médoc and Médoc wines, and may even be some among the St-Estèphes. Beaumont , Belgrave , Marbuzet and La Tour de By stood out – but see my report on 22 apr for why there are not more great buys among the crus bourgeois and petits châteaux in 2005.
