2003 tre bicchiere selections – Italy's top wines?

See my take on this in wine news.

I tasted 98 of the 250 wines glorified with tre-bicchiere/three-glass status in this year's Gambero Rosso guide to Italian wines 2003, including:

  • Alto Adige (all reds)
  • Piemonte (just those from producers new to the guide)
  • Lombardy (all wines)
  • Emilia Romagna (both wines)
  • Tuscany (all wines)
  • Umbria (all reds)
  • Marche (all reds)
  • Lazio (both wines)
  • Abruzzi (both wines)
  • Campania (all wines)
  • Basilicata (all wines)
  • Puglia (all wines)
  • Calabria (the wine!)

So my big lacunae were white wines in general, Friuli in particular, the islands and most of Piemont....
