Can a wine be both weak and wonderful?
I’m writing an article for this Saturday’s new-look ‘sharper’ FT about lower alcohol wines (those less than 12% alcohol) and some of the bureaucratic absurdities involved in selling them. I thought it might be useful to list some of the wine styles that can be particularly low in alcohol, and to recommend a specific example of each. I had thought that England and Wales, with some of the vineyards furthest from the equator, would be able to offer lots of examples but I am currently finding it pretty difficult to locate examples (that I have tasted) much below 12 or 12.5%. Strange, eh?...
