Tasting notes on Peñín's top Spanish wines
Following the publication of the Guía Peñín 2008 , the annual guide to Spanish wine that owes it existence and reputation to José Peñín, the publishers held a tasting of the top-scoring wines, previously listed here , in Madrid. Inevitably the producers of these wines took the opportunity to show more than one wine so this is a review of many more wines than in that original list. The tasting was such a huge success, and so crowded with members of the Spanish wine trade, that I had to have a minder to help me squeeze through the crowds – though her tactics owed their success to the Spanish school of charm not to the boxing ring....
