Purple pagers may have been wondering why Michelin-starred chef Roger Jones of The Harrow has been so quiet on the forum recently. The photograph below shows why. The poor thing sustained a rugby injury which has entailed him having implants in his knee to re-attach the ligaments (ouch). He will apparently have to remain in plaster for six weeks.

This surely cries out for a caption competition. Just add your suggestion(s) below, ensuring that your name and location are there too (you'll have to add these manually if you are not a member of purple pages). Closing time for entries is 5pm GMT this Thursday. On Friday I'll announce the winner who, provided they eventually supply me with their address, will be sent a five-hour Jancis Robinson's Wine Course DVD and the recent one-hour Vintners' Tales DVD.

Feb 20 - Roger sends this message from his Blackberry: "I think the winner deserves an added bonus. Can u add a bottle of Moss Wood Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon 2001 which I will mail directly to them (in UK). If the winner is from outside the UK I will arrange a suitable alternative."

It says here: "To make your own sherry, the balance of the original must needs to be correct, which is one reason why gypsum is added (the other being that it helps to develop the flavor)."....surely there has to be an easier way to get the requisite gypsum home from Jerez than smuggling this albariza on my leg!
