Grace Vineyard Video 1 - an Australian in China
Ken Murchison visits Grace Vineyard, one of China's most reputable wine producers in Shanxi province south west of Beijing, far more famous for coal than wine, leaving his Portree wine operation in the Macedon Ranges of Victoria four or five times a year to make wine in this very, very different environment. The white building behind him is Grace's winery, designed by the French. Ken replaced French winemaker Gerard Colin, who is rumoured to be setting up a wine operation in Shandong province on the east coast for the Rothschilds of Lafite, the single most respected wine name in China (about which more later).
