This book may be subtitled 'The Mystery of the World's Most Expensive Bottle of Wine' but I am deeply indebted to Benjamin Wallace, author of the latest account of the Rodenstock affair, The Billionaire’s Vinegar, for solving one of my life’s many mysteries. On pages 199/200 of my professional memoir called Confessions of a Wine Lover in the UK and Tasting Pleasure in the US I explain how I came to  find myself sitting in Bordeaux airport’s departure lounge on the morning of 1 Oct 1986 desperately scribbling tasting notes on the 66 legendary wines we had been served at a 12-hour marathon meal the day...
