Mike Officer of Carlisle - video
Earlier this week I had the pleasure of visiting Mike Officer surrounded by his barrels of Carlisle reds in his particular corner of the Copain Custom Crush facility in Santa Rosa.
He makes quite remarkably pure, bright-fruited wines, most notably from very old Zinfandel vines. Here he explains how the Sideways effect on demand for Pinot Noir is robbing him of some of his best vineyards. Why keep centenarian Zinfandel in the Russian River Valley when you can substitute young Pinot Noir vines?
