A chance to taste Pavie 2003 – now four vintages of Ch Latour

Dec 31: Jamie Hutchinson reports "we are now running the following high end wines- Latour 1986, 1994, 1996, and 2002 (we think this mini-vertical gives a good range of styles) alongside DRC Grands Echezeaux 2000, Taylors 1966 vintage port, Clos des Papes 2003, and Lafite 1999. plus a motley selection of 72 more affordable ones!"

A new wine shop has just opened in Upper Street, Islington in north London, a street with great political significance as it is the location of Granita restaurant where Tony Blair and Gordon Brown hammered out their fateful deal over who was to be prime minister.

The Sampler is different from any wine store I know in that its owner Jamie Hutchinson has imported a number of tasting machines from Italy that allow him to have 80 wines available for tasting every day – ranging, I’m told, from £6 barbecue reds through to first growth bordeaux. This week I am assured that their grander tasting wines include DRC Romanée Saint Vivant 1999, Leroy Latricières Chambertin 1995, Ch Montrose 2003, Ch Lafite 1999, Ch Léoville Las Cases 1996, Grange 1998, Araujo Eisele 2002, Hermitage  La Chapelle 1990 and “a bunch of others” including apparently the controversial Ch Pavie 2003.

Reports welcome.
