A marketing lesson from McLaren Vale

Today is the last of the two and a half days of the massive wine-trade get together that is WineFuture Hong Kong 2011. I conducted a tasting called Beyond Bordeaux last night and this morning Robert Parker shows off 20 of his favourite young red bordeaux.

The core of the event is a series of sessions in a vast, dark, rather over-air-conditioned auditorium in the Asia World Expo out at the airport. Below is a small segment of yesterday's session on how to market wine, beginning with moderator Robert Joseph (en route to another conference in South Africa) introducing the irrepressible Chester Osborn of d'Arenberg Wines in McLaren Vale (pictured above).

Also on stage, left to right, are Paul Henry (late of Wine Australia), Felicity Carter of Meininger's Wine Business and Jaime Araujo of Terravina. But, as you will see, all eyes were on Chester.
