The dramatic vineyards of the coast around Genoa produce hardly enough wine for the region’s tourists. Cinqueterre and Dolceacqua are the place names most commonly encountered outside the region. Local grape varieties are Ormeasco (the Dolcetto of Piedmont), light red Rossesse making easy reds, soft enough to enjoy with the local fish, and crisp white Vermentino and its local variant Pigato.
