28 Oct  - In yesterday's vote in Montalcino, 96% of Brunello producers voted to maintain the status quo in terms of varietal requirement that all Brunello be made from 100% Sangiovese grapes. Banfi, the US-owned dominant Montalcino producer whose Brunello 2003 was sequestered for analysis on suspicion of containing grapes other than Sangiovese, made the following announcement last week: The Siena Prosecutor’s office has de-sequestered Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino 2003 after determining that the wine fully corresponds to the rules of the Brunello di Montalcino appellation.
