I hear it was snowing in London last week. Well it wasn’t a great deal warmer in Sydney the week before that on my first-ever trip to Australia. In fact, it was the coldest October day for 30 years when I explored the harbour in the chill and rain, and it was snowing in the Blue Mountains not much more than an hour’s drive to the west of the city. I rushed out and bought a DrizaBone waxed jacket. Worth having for the name alone. But the sun shone in the Hunter Valley and I’m quite sure the growers are hoping for a better vintage than 2008, when rain at harvest – not uncommon in this region – meant that many producers...
