50 wines from Berry Bros
20 Nov 2008 by Jancis Robinson
There were some very serious and well-made wines here – quite a change from the mass-market retailers. None of the wines is cheap and a few are overpriced, but they are generally satisfying. They were obviously pleased to have wrested Castello di Ama in Chianti Classico from Armit. We were treated to an early look at two Krug 1998s, of which I have to say I preferred the regular vintage to the much more expensive single-vineyard Chardonnay Clos du Mesnil. I have yet to taste the single-vineyard Pinot Noir Clos d’Ambonnay that now sells for around £3,000 a bottle. LVMH branding: never knowingly undersold....
