Is our type big enough?

3 Dec 2008 by Jancis Robinson

We're just trying to ensure that there is consistency of font types and sizes on this site but it does occur to me before we lock everything down to ask whether you think our new type size is big enough?

I suspect that it may be a size too small for some eyes. If you have any strong opinions, let us know in the box below please.

(We also intend to reduce the width of the forum in order to minimise the incidence of Centre Court neck among purple pagers.)

Font size is OK but I don't like the spindly typeface

too small, since you're asking...

Why yes, your type is one size too small. Notice how most every other website has a larger point size than you use.

A bit larger would be greatly appreciated. Cheers,

I would love to see the type a bit larger. Old eyes like mine need all the help we can get.

Hi Jancis, Font size is fine on my high visibility setting (Windows XP - press left hand Alt+Shift and Printscreen keys all together). I'd like a tiny bit wider line-spacing so the paragraphs don't appear quite so bunched, but understand that this may affect the aesthetics of the 'normal' site. One small improvement that really would help would be the return of the under-score when a link (URL) is added to the site. With my settings, the colour of links is close enough to that of normal text that they are indistinguishable to my colour-blind eyes. I'm quite sure I miss some of the links and can only be sure one exists when the sense of the sentance insists to me that one must be there somewhere. I appreciate your asking the question, and am sorry that it inevitably means a raft of suggestions from us! To be honest, in my experience jr.com is visually pretty damn good, thank you.

Hi yes the font size is too small for my eyes - I always have to increase the zoom on my computer. Agree it does look pretty, and maybe it is just my eyesight worsening as I progress through my 40's. Love the site anyway.

At the risk of being awkward, but whilst you are thinking about this, I think there is a whole raft of accessibility legislation relating to making sites suitable for the partially sighted. This means setting up the site in such a manner that the "make text bigger" option works and that screenreaders will work. The RNIB might be able to help re what is required and if there are any grants. Personally the current text is fine

For my eyes, the type size is perfect for the fancy design. On the other hand, it's always possible to click in "view" and then "make text bigger" in browser preferences.
