Does the world need another Australian wine? Maybe not, but Robert Oatley (pictured) thinks America does. Long before Yellow Tail, Bob Oatley’s Rosemount Estate wines charmed the palates and pocketbooks of value-seeking wine drinkers in the US, UK and other markets. His basic bottlings of Chardonnay and Shiraz were rewarding and well-priced, around $10; the Roxburgh Chardonnay and Balmoral Syrah were, and continue to be, top of the range. The Oatley family sold Rosemount to Southcorp (now owned by brewers Foster’s - see Foster's - the case of the disappearing wine brands ) in 2001, and thereafter Bob Oatley...
