A new DOC for Piemonte

The governmental body of the province of Piemonte which is responsible for all matters and regulations concerning viticulture, Il Comitato Consultivo per la Vitivinicoltura, has given the green light for yet another DOC, which will simply be called Alba , after the town famous for its white truffles. This new addition will be for reds only, with the legal requirement that the wines consist of a minimum of 70% Nebbiolo and 15% Barbera. The balance can be of any authorised or recommended red grape variety in the Langhe region, which de facto means that the door is open wide for international suspects such as Cabernet Sauvignon.
