The original Monte Bello

The Monte Bello vineyard on a ridge more than 2,500 feet (762 m)  above the Pacific to the west, and Silicon Valley to the east, is one of the world's most atmospheric and historic vineyards.  The Bordeaux grapes grown there are responsible for Ridge Vineyards' (sic) top wine, which ages magnificently.  But the area planted today, a total of about 100 acres (40 ha), is only about half the area planted in the nineteenth century. See from this video where it could be extended, if Ridge could gain planting rights in perpetuity (promising to foreswear the possibility of ever selling it on for real-estate...
