On Sunday I witnessed the most extraordinary auction at the Grinzane Cavour castle outside Alba - of some of the most exquisite white truffles found this (rather good) season. This charity auction has become an annual event and this year was held simultaneously with a gathering in Crown Cellars, Hong Kong, with part of the money raised going to build a kindergarten in that part of the Abruzzo recently devastated by an earthquake.
