Where is this? A quiz

30 Nov 2009 by Jancis Robinson

A little bit of fun today. Take a look at the notice below (photographed in my usual excruciatingly amateur manner) reminding us that accuracy is the premier quality of the conscientious worker. Then have a guess which wine producer has it up on their wall.

Answers/guesses in the comments box below, please.

OK, my anniversary present to you is to reveal that this notice is on the wall at - tarantara!!! - Clos des Papes in Chateauneuf du Pape.

I hope you all have new respect for Vincent Avril as a result.

I guess Emmanuel Rouget - just because he is the quiet man of Burgundy doesn't mean he doesn't expect promptness!

You wrote "producer" - so it surely cant be an auction warehouse.... ;) I would guess it is a quality negoc house in burgundy. many small houses have too few employees to even have this sign... So Jadot?

Oh, please, gentlemen and ladies. This is clearly the work of a Master of his/her craft and trade. I reckon a lady of the likes of our dear Jancis and Julia. Some of us are precise with regard to quality, time and budget, most likely in that order, but not always. Sometimes time (or budget) takes precedence. Balance, as in wine itself, is the crux.

If you take the sign to refer to "accuracy" (as in accurately faking a wine...) then Laurent Ponsot would be a funny man to have this on his wall...

Here's a full translation of the sign: "Time is money. Punctuality is the prime quality of the consciencious worker. Notice! It is always the same people who are late." My guess - Lalou Bize-Leroy?

My guess: Château d'Yquem!
