Meyer-Näkel goes global

The wine estate of Meyer-Näkel, tucked away in the narrow Ahr valley, goes back a long way. It was founded in 1870 by the Meyer family, but it wasn’t until 1950, when Willibald Näkel, himself a winemaker, married one of the Meyer daughters, Paula, and they formed the Meyer-Näkel estate. His son Werner started off his working life as a grammar school maths teacher and sports coach. In 1982 he took a year’s unpaid leave to help his father out; he never left.
