Majestic's miserable Germans

Richard has written the introduction to our joint account of tasting some of the summer selections at Majestic, the successful and expanding UK chain of wine warehouses, in Majestic's winning formula . But, rather than cover Majestic with glory, I'd like to have a whinge about one aspect of their wine selection. Why oh why do they think the key to choosing wine from Germany is to burrow as deep as possible into the bargain basement? They have some very nice wines from France and Spain. So why is their German selection so focused on wines that are oddly, and perhaps justifiably, cheap? I had an email last week from them...
