What's special about Rutherglen's climate

5 Apr 2012 by Jancis Robinson

My article on the recent Rutherglen ambush and associated tasting notes on 50 Rutherglen stickies was much commented upon.

I therefore thought there might be interest in further information I have received on what makes Rutherglen's climate so propitious for these strong, super-sweet Muscats and Topaques.
Turns out that Rutherglen is neither hotter nor drier than other regions, but it is sunnier.

See details in this document comparing Rutherglen's climate with that of other important Australian wine regions.
