The history of Barolo cannot be told without mentioning Fontanafredda. With an annual production of 6.5 million bottles, this historic estate, by sheer volume alone, is one of the region's key players, while its past links it directly to the House of Savoy. Fontanafredda lies in a secluded valley surrounded by an amphitheatre of vines right by the road leading to Serralunga, its orange and ochre striped buildings impossible to overlook.
