Gevrey’s Château sale causes angst

There is uproar in Burgundy over the fact that the Château de Gevrey-Chambertin is now in Chinese hands, having been bought for €8 million by a gambling entrepreneur from Macau, according to Le Parisien . The château, most notable for its square tower slap bang in the middle of this famous Côtes de Nuits village, was classified a historic monument only as recently as 1993, according to Bill Nanson's excellent 2009 profile of this property in his Burgundy Report (from which this image is taken). It comes with small holdings - enough to fill about 20 barrels, in the village appellation, some of them very old...
