Germany 2012 - another miracle?
Readers may have expected this report a little earlier, but don't shoot me, I am only the messenger. The blame for the delay must be attributed to a very late harvest and, although 2012 was already touted as another great vintage as early as mid October, nothing is really definitive until the fruit arrives at the wineries.
As elsewhere in Europe, the early part of the season gave growers plenty to be concerned about. An extremely cold February with temperatures as low as -20 ºC for several nights running could have caused more damage among less hardy vines than was the case eventually.
