Turkey cracks down on alcohol

1 June - See in your news the extent of popular protest at Erdoğan's increasing autocracy in Turkey.  These new curbs on alcohol have been cited as one of many causes by several commentators. We knew it was coming when prime minister Erdoğan declared last month that 'the national drink of Turks is ayran ', the yoghurt and water mix popular with fast food in Turkey. The strong Justice and Development Party (AKP) majority has a tendency to bring up an issue out of nowhere, use the discussions that result to make a few adjustments, and then legislate. Fast forward a couple of weeks and the bill that brings further restrictions...
