The following notes were taken during the extremely bold and unusual tasting heralded by this video. A group of around 24 wine writers, collectors and winemakers were invited to the Cistercian abbey pictured here, Kloster Eberbach in the Rheingau, last month to taste 15 burgundies from the 1950s, 1940s, 1930s and 1920s alongside the same number of equally mature Pinot Noirs, or Spätburgunders, from the state wine domaine's holding in the Höllenberg vineyard above the village of Assmannshausen.
