Deadline looms for Geoffrey Roberts Award 2012

There are just two and a half weeks left to apply for the 2012 Geoffrey Roberts Award. A total of £3,000, or nearly $5,000, will be given to someone who can successfully convince us judges that they can spend that amount on food- and/or drink-related travel which is likely to make a positive difference, not just to themselves.

Applicants can be any age, any nationality and can be proposing travel anywhere in the world. The journey proposed and its potential long term effects are much more important than how the application is written.

Recent past winners have included Sarah Robins, who last year travelled from Australia to research ways in which low income households are encouraged to take advantage of farmers’ markets in the United States, and Derek Mossman Knapp who used his 2010 award to help Chilean wine farmers realise the potential of old-vine Carignan in Maule in the aftermath of the earthquake there.

See How to apply for details of how to submit an application – by Saturday 31 March.

Please spread the word to anyone you think might benefit from this award.
