Faro – Sicily's new hotspot

Readers may remember how only last year I raved about the Faro wines of two producers, Bonavita and Salvatores Geraci's Palari estate. Faro is a tiny DOC perched on the windy hills at the very eastern tip of Sicily overlooking the straight of Messina. It was practically extinct when in 1996 Geraci came out with his first wine carrying the DOC's name. It caused a sensation among Italy's wine cognoscenti and saved the DOC from extinction in the process.
