Languedoc-Roussillon 2000 - a fine vintage
The great mass producers of the Languedoc plains may be in trouble (see wine news on this earlier in the year) but the individual domaines in the hills of Languedoc-Roussillon are on a roll. And no wonder for they offer some of the best-value hand-made wines of France - even if too many of them are becoming aware of this and prices are starting to rise. One small sign that things are going well for the region's best small-scale producers is that the mobile bottling lines on which they all depend are booked up for three months in advance, for the first time ever apparently. The 2000 harvest, plagued by rain and rot for some whites...
