Northern Portugal's other red table wines

Here on purple pages, especially in your turn , we have been a bit preoccupied by the exciting new table wines now emerging from port country. But south of the Douro Valley and rather closer to the coast are Portugal's two longest-serving sources of table wine, Bairrada and Dão. Dão in particular is undergoing the most dramatic modernisation of any wine region I can think of - and about time too.

Most wine drinkers are either too young to have come across a Dão, or old enough to have tasted old-style Dão and vowed never to do so...
