A week ago we published an offer of special signed bookplates for our massive new book Wine Grapes – A complete guide to 1,368 vine varieties including their origins and flavours

We were immediately swamped by demand for them - so much so that we regret to say that we have completely run out of our first tranche of 500. Our deepest apologies if you have requested one and have not yet received one.  Although there will be some bookplates in the mail as you read this, we also now have a waiting list for the second tranche of them that we have decided to have printed.

Because we three co-authors Jancis Robinson, Julia Harding and José Vouillamoz live in different countries, it is by no means easy to get these special sticky-backed labels signed by all three of us. We will not be able to sign and then send out our second tranche of bookplates until the end of November. And we also need to know in advance how many to have printed for this second and final lot of them.

So, we hereby warn you that if you wish to take advantage of our offer of a signed bookplate that can be stuck into your copy of Wine Grapes, you should email your name and address to grapes@jancisrobinson.com before midnight London time tomorrow Tuesday 30 October.

As you can see from winegrapes.org, our website that gives many more details about the book, the only difference between the UK and US editions is the cover, slipcase and price. The official publication date in the UK was last Thursday, whereas the official US publication date is this Thursday, with books in theory on shelves (Hurricane Sandy permitting) by a week tomorrow 6 November.

By the way, the fold on the back of the bookplates is diagonal. (It took me some time to work this out.) And please note that this offer of a signed bookplate (one per person) is from us authors personally. The books are so heavy – more than 7lb/3kg – that we are unable to send out books ourselves. We leave this to the specialists such as the following:

At full price the UK edition is (eek) £120 from Penguin's Allen Lane imprint (just taken over by German publishers Bertelsmann who own Random House) while the US edition is officially priced at $175 and is published by Harper Collin's Ecco subsidiary. But there are many ways to pay much less than this, including £75 inc p&p via this special offer on JancisRobinson.comAmazon.co.uk and, in the US, Amazon.comBarnes & Noble and IndieBound. The book is also available from Amazon.fr in France, Amazon.de in Germany, Amazon.it in Italy and Amazon.es in Spain.
