In terms of percentage of national vineyard devoted to organic, France is in second place behind the world leader Spain, where around 8% of all vineyards were organic in 2011. Half of this comprised vines still somewhere in the three-year conversion process.

Spain's certified organic wine 'boom' (outside Penèdes at least) seems essentially driven by how subsidies were given to those converting to organics (see also Italy, below)...
