Once more, Throwback Thursday has been temporarily deposed in favour of a third article to show off our huge free Learn section. The first highlighted where to buy, store and study; the second focused on guides to drinking wine, and vintages; this one reveals two of the most meaty parts: wine regions and grape varieties.
The wine regions page has information on 36 countries, the most significant of which are broken down into subsections. The result is more than 83,000 words of totally free material, all fully revised and updated in 2014. It provides a comprehensive introduction to vineyards from Argentina to the Weinvertel, covering all the major countries and regions plus less mainstream ones such as China and Moldova.
The grape varieties section is split into two tabs, covering red and white grapes. There are 50,000 words of free information on over 500 different varieties of Vitis vinifera (and indeed other species of the genus). That is less than half the number featured in 2012's epic tome Wine Grapes – but we have been sure to ensure our online resource includes all the latest research and understanding uncovered by that book.
