Twenty years of Ornellaia
Ornellaia 1985 VDT Toscana 16 Drink up
Still impressively deep crimson and a note of leafiness. Ripe, round, taut, rather tense nose but on the palate the fruit is fading a bit. The acidity is becoming more and more prominent. Very much a mid 1980s wine. Reminds me of California rather.
Ornellaia 1988 VDT Toscana 18 Drink now
Very dark crimson with definitely aged rim. Sweet complex bouquet, very well melded and flattering. Very easy to like and much gentler than the 1985. Lovely apogee now. Great drinking now although there is still a little tannin here and acidity just threatening to emerge a bit much. Fresh yet...
