​Tesco strikes back in supermarket wine wars

The UK retail scene is in flux as the giant retailer Tesco is under fire for having overstated profits by a cool £250 million. Shoppers are deserting traditional supermarkets for discount rivals such as Lidl and Aldi who have invaded from mainland Europe. Lidl scored a PR triumph recently by adding a raft of relatively posh wine, especially red bordeaux, to its stores at relatively reasonable (though by no means giveaway) prices.

So now Tesco, not for the first time, is trying to use fine wine to lure customers back. From today until midnight a week on Friday, 17 October...
