Vin de Pays – a lifesaver for unwanted French wine?

The proposed introduction of a new all-embracing, multi-regional, Vin de Pays Vignobles de France as reported here earlier this year, is not going unopposed. (There’s a surprise. French wine producers seem to have developed a taste for legal stroppiness – as witness the recent suspension of both the 2006 St-Emilion classification and the 2003 cru bourgeois reclassification because of objections in the courtroom.)
