Napa Valley floods recede

3 Jan 2006 by JR
You may have seen the photographs of a flooded Napa Valley last weekend. The waters now seem to be receding. The wine, food and arts centre COPIA situated practically on the Napa river in the city of Napa at the southern end of the valley for example is now open for business once more, after having been surrounded by water and completely inaccessible on Saturday. The many diners who had planned to celebrated New Year’s Eve at Julia’s Kitchen had to make alternative plans. Similarly, Thomas Keller’s world-famous French Laundry was flooded and all roads to Yountville closed over the weekend.

Traffic is now returning to normal. All streets in downtown Napa are now open and passable. Napa Valley vineyards are regularly affected by flooding without any serious long-term damage. It may be that some wineries and storage facilities have suffered. Any reports gratefully received.
