On Thursday 18 nov Julian Curry will perform his acclaimed one-man show Hic!, or The Entire History of Wine (abridged)
at Fortnum & Mason, Piccadilly, London SW1. The show will be
followed by a candlelit dinner to showcase the wines of Deerfield
Ranch, a family-run winery in Sonoma, California whose wines are being introduced to the UK by Noel Young of Trumpington near Cambridge.
Although I have yet to see Hic! unfortunately, I
am told it is a witty hurtle through history, literature, and wine
involving the likes of Thucydides, Shakespeare, Wodehouse, Wilde, and
even me apparently, along the way, as Julian Curry (www.hicwine.com) tells the history of wine in general, and of a certain bottle of 450-year-old wine in particular.
Deerfield
have generously donated two tables of eight, 16 of the tickets worth
£125 each, to raise funds for their chosen charity Dreamflight (www.dreamflight.org), the
registered UK charity whose purpose is to send seriously ill children
on their ‘Holiday of a Lifetime’ to the theme parks in Florida. The
deal is that for every ticket bought on behalf of Dreamflight, up to a
total of 16, Deerfield will match that with an equal donation to the
charity, which means therefore that the evening should raise a couple
of thousand pounds for a very good cause. Tickets are available on a
first-come, first-served basis.
The evening will begin at 6.45pm and the performance begins at 7.15pm followed by dinner with Deerfield Ranch wines. The dress code is lounge suits.
To purchase tickets, contact Noel Young in Cambridge on 01223 566744 or email him at noel@nywines.co.uk Please
be sure to quote Dreamflight at the time of booking so that the charity
will benefit from your purchase, and you can be assured that someone
will benefit from your evening’s entertainment.
