Roy Hersh on Noval '66

Karl Coveney, UK: Dear Jancis, I was fortunate to taste a 1966 Quinta Do Noval vintage port last night. However, because I had never tasted a wine of that age and am pretty inexperienced with vintage port in general, I wasn't sure how to judge it. It had a distinct raisin/figgy nose - no signs of fresh fruit or tannins - and tasted of the same but with an additional flavour of cold coffee. It also smelt very like madeira. Is it possible that it was off or is it how the 1966's should taste?...
