Bruce Corrigan, Atlanta, USA : I just heard about the Carmenère grape in Chile. I didn't find it in the OCW. Could you tell me a little about it, and any recommendations on wines made from it? Thank you in advance. me: Yes it's amazing how relatively recently this old Bordeaux red wine grape has come to the fore. It turns out, as you doubtless know, that a high proportion of the vines traditionally thought to be Merlot in Chile are in fact this variety which was quite common in Bordeaux in the 19th century but is now rare in France.
