Another bargain from Avila, Central Coast

Patricia, UK:   Re your wine of this week , Avila Pinot Noir: I bought and hauled around Paris, and then tasted with a group of WSET Diploma students in Mâcon (Bourgogne, France), a bottle of the Avila Rhône blend, a Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre blend from Santa Barbara AVA.  It was amazingly delightful given its, relatively-speaking, low price, £9.99 at Oddbins. It shows punchy black and red fruits (Syrah and Grenache) and a touch of animal and meat character (Mourvèdre) and has smooth texture and great balance but sufficient structure of tannins and acid to suggest it might age a bit.  Oh, yes, the alcohol (13.9% on the...
