Simon Tam, Hong Kong: After almost six months’ absence from these pages, I am glad to find the familiar, vigorous, informed exchanges between ppers as well as Jancis's ever-refreshing wine views. The comment by Michael de Mello of Estoril on US/Portuguese sparkling wine Vertice caught my eyes. We poured it at our wedding earlier this year and bubbled up very mixed reactions among our guests. The traditionalists' dream of the Douro fizzled while the contemporary wine lovers debated the relative flavour contributions by the different native black Douro grapes.
