Wines that smell of gas
James Stark, Sheffield: Wine faults - Whilst on 30 apr your Wine Relief dinner was proceeding apace I was happily (company) less happily (wine) involved in a wine dinner with close friends in Birmingham. Unfortunately we seemed to be running an evening designed to test Julia Harding's skills from her wine fault day out. A Côte Rôtie 1996 from Jasmin that had an initial bouquet of natural gas that worsened as the evening went on - graphically described as like putting your head in a gas oven an hour later. It became undrinkable due to the bouquet, though oddly it was quite pleasant to drink with a peg on your nose! A Lynch...
