How will recent German vintages age?
Jon Hicke, Canada: Just read the response on how red Bordeaux 2003s may age and was wondering if you could suggest a similar order for recent German Riesling vintages (including classifications). Any danger of recent Kabinetts peaking or fading? (I'm thinking of those from 2000 in particular, which, as vintage, was by no means stellar.) me: I may be being ridiculously optimistic but in my experience the leaner the vintage in Germany, the longer the wines take to come round - although of course the 2000 vintage's problem was disease and dilution rather than lack of ripeness. So for very recent vintages, I'd suggest drink 2000...
