Is any cheap wine worth drinking?

Carol Horton, Rome: I have been drinking all sorts of cheap reds, and have tried all sorts of years and producers, but am not able to find a really good red at a good price. Could this be me, my palate or is it necessary to spend more than €10 to get something worth the drinking?! me: I can't speak with any authority on what's available for less than €10 in Rome, but I can tell you that even here in the UK where our duties on wine alone are approaching £2 (€3) a bottle ( far higher than in Italy), there are many wines worth drinking at less than £5 (€7.50) a bottle.
