Replicating Burgundian heaven
Michael J Foley, Oxford: The most memorable red wine I have tried by a long way is a 1985 Clos des Corton by Faiveley - pure fruit, wonderful colour, extremely multi-faceted and complex, etc. I tried a second bottle with a couple of wine-loving friends who were similarly impressed. Unfortunately none of us has the experience or critical faculties to know whether the wine is truly exceptional or simply what one would expect from a good producer in a great year with a grand cru site. The only clue I have is that one of the aforementioned friends went into a wine merchant in Beaune, mentioned that he'd had a great Faiveley Clos...
