Which country uses the worst corks?
Steve Dutton, Germany: Regarding the ongoing debate re: cork vs the rest. Over the last 15 years I have consumed mostly German, French, Italian and Australian wines, in fairly similar proportions. I've gone through my tasting notes and find that I have never had a corked Australian wine (and this includes a fair number of whites ), very seldom a corked Italian wine, not too many examples of corked German wines (oddly, none at all until the 1997 vintage, with 2003 being the worst), but.... quite a few French, including a couple of Champagnes. Though the majority of wines drunk have not been French, the majority of corked...
