Good California Merlots
Martin Nettleton, Yorkshire: Hi, hope you're not sweltering in the heat over in France. Here it's a beautiful summer's day, lacking only the Test Match on the radio. Anyway! I wonder if you could make a suggestion to fill a gap in my Californian selection. I have tried and enjoyed and bought, Ramey Chardonnay, Walter Hansel Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and I love Spottswoode Cab Sauv. I'd like to find a Merlot at around the £30 a bottle mark that offers as much quality and enjoyment. I've had a Phelps and a Marilyn Merlot (complete with her picture on the label) but nothing that's hooked me like the others. Someone...
